Young Boys vs Villarreal
UEFA – Champions League
Date: Wednesday, 20 October 2021
Kick-off at 20:00 UK / 21:00 CET
Venue: Stadion Wankdorf.
The quality is on Villarreal’s side and the visitors have an imperative to get something out of this game if they want to keep chances of clinching one of the top two spots in the group alive.
We expect them to confirm the quality difference on the pitch and pick up their maiden win of the Champions League campaign on Wednesday in Bern.
Young Boys vs Villarreal Head-to-head
These two outfits did not have a chance to meet each other in the past.
Young Boys vs Villarreal Predictions & Analysis
Young Boys and Villarreal had a completely opposite experience with the last minutes of their respective clashes against Manchester United so far in the competition.
While the Swiss champions claimed a huge Man United scalp on the opening day through the late stoppage-time winner, the Spaniards conceded a late goal to lose the second-round clash 2-1 at the Old Trafford.
This leaves as at a pretty much must-win situation for Villarreal here. Unai Emery’s men have collected only one point from the opening two rounds and they can ill afford slip-ups against Young Boys in the upcoming double-header.
Despite beating Manchester United, Young Boys are still considered as group underdogs. They have done little to harm Atalanta in the second round, although the final score might not reveal it as the Italians only claimed a narrow 1-0 victory in Bergamo.
Young Boys did nothing up front, failing to create more than four attempts (total, not just on target) on the occasion.
Villarreal have been playing hot and cold throughout the season. They fell 1-2 at home to Osasuna at the weekend, but they had already managed some decent results so far in the season (away draws to Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid, back-to-back home wins over Elche and Betis, etc.).
Key Stats for Betting
- Young Boys have been in the group phase of the Champions League just once in their history.
- It was in the 2018/19 season when they lost four of six games in the process.
- They showed nothing against Atalanta in the second round and we can see them struggling here against Villarreal.
- The visitors did not deserve to lose the second round clash against Manchester United.
