Villarreal vs Salzburg
UEFA Europa League
Date: Thursday, 25 February 2021
Kick-Off at 17.55 UK
Venue: Estadio de la Ceramica.
Villarreal made a huge step towards the last 16 round of the UEFA Europa League thanks to a comfortable 0-2 victory over Salzburg last weekend at Red Bull Arena. El Submarino Amarillo will thus be looking to finish the job this Thursday when they welcome Austrian champions in the reverse fixture at Estadio de la Ceramica.
Unai Emery’s men have generally performed very well defensively throughout the entire season. El Submarino Amarillo have one of the best defensive record in the top flight of Spanish football this term (25 goals conceded in 24 games). They’ve shown such defensive composure by holding the free-scoring Salzburg side to only two shots on target seven days ago at Red Bull Arena.
Villarreal vs Salzburg Head-to-head
- Villarreal now lead the head to head tie by a single win ahead of the sixth meeting with Die Roten Bullen.
- Interestingly, none of the past five head to head affairs between the two outfits ended without a winner.
- El Submarino Amarillo have now won each of the last three clashes against Salzburg, netting at least two goals in each of the victories in the process.
Villarreal vs Salzburg Prediction
Although Villarreal are winless in six straight La Liga games (five draws and one defeat), we have enough reasons to see them as favourites ahead of this rematch at Estadio de la Ceramica.
Salzburg are not the same team they have been in the last couple of years with Erling Haaland and Takumi Minamino in their ranks. They are still the dominant force in Austrian football, but they just lack competitiveness against the teams from the top-five European leagues.
Die Roten Bullen have won each of six Bundesliga outings this year, bagging at least two goals in all these wins. However, such domestic form counted for little last week when they were completely outplayed by Villarreal.
We expect a similar scenario this time around and the home win is our top betting recommendation, paid at the odds of 1.85.
As for the alternative option, we will chase for the value in the 2.20 odds offered for the Under 2.5 goals pick knowing how good Villarreal have been defensively throughout the season in Spain
