Tottenham vs Southampton
English Premier League
Date: 9 February 2022, Wednesday
Kick-off at 19:45 UK / 20:45 CET
Venue: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (London).
Tottenham returned to the battle for the top-four finish and a place in UEFA Champions League next season after a run of six wins in the last nine Premier League rounds.
They did lose to Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge in the previous league action but will still come into Wednesday’s fixture against Southampton in high spirits.
Antonio Conte has made some cuts in the team in January as he let several midfielders go, including Dele Alli, Giovanni Lo Celso, Tanguy Ndombele, and Bryan Gil.
Juventus’ pair Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski arrived in North London as their replacements.
The good news for Conte is the return of one of his main stars Heung-Min Son who also got a rest after skipping World Cup qualifiers for Korea Republic in the recently-finished international break.
Also, Harry Kane seems to be in a much better form compared to the start of the season and Spurs fans generally have more reasons to be optimistic ahead of the remaining fixtures in the season.
Mid-week’s clash against Southampton is another winnable contest for Spurs, especially if we know that the Saints have shipped at least two goals in each of the last six Premier League outings on the road.
Southampton do play attacking-minded football under Ralph Hasenhuttl and they will leave plenty of space for Son and Kane to deliver up front for the hosts.
Tottenham vs Southampton Head-to-head
- Spurs won three and drew one of the last four meetings with Southampton.
- Both teams scored in 13 of the last 14 head to head encounters between these two rivals.
- Tottenham have a great record of 31 wins, 6 draws, and 8 defeats in 45 home fixtures against the Saints.
Tottenham vs Southampton Prediction
Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min should run riot past the leaky Southampton back line on Wednesday evening. We are particularly eyeing Kane to score anytime at the 1.66 odds here.
Kane was on target in the reverse fixture against the Saints on December 28th and he also scored another disallowed goal on the occasion. The home win is also well worth backing at the 1.61 odds here, while you can hardly make a mistake backing the Over 2.5 goals FT bet at the 1.72 odds either.
