Tottenham vs Burnley
England Premier League
Date: Sunday, 28 February 2021
Kick-Off at 14.00 UK
Venue: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London.
Tottenham are trying to catch the last train for the battle for the top-four finish at the end of this Premier League season. Jose Mourinho’s men are nine points below West Ham United in the fourth position after the last weekend’s 2-1 loss against the Hammers.
Spurs do have a game in hand, meaning it is theoretically only a six-point deficit. However, there is just no room for mistakes, especially not against out-of-form bottom-half rivals. This is exactly the opposition Tottenham are facing on Matchday No 26 as Burnley come to visit their stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Clarets are unbeaten in four straight league matches, but they have been dreadful in the last couple of performances.
While Dean Dyche was able to see at least something from his men in a 1-1 draw to Fulham, the last weekend’s goalless draw against West Bromwich Albion was just catastrophic. It was a game where the Clarets had an extra man on the pitch for more than an hour, but their rivals were by far the more dominant side on the pitch.
Tottenham vs Burnley Head-to-head
- Spurs lead the head to head record by three wins ahead of the 87th meeting with the Clarets.
- Tottenham won two and drew one of the last three head to head encounters, including this season’s 0-1 victory at Turf Moor.
- None of the last two head to head fixtures produced three or more goals.
Tottenham vs Burnley Prediction
Tottenham have been on a disastrous run of form themselves, losing five of the last six Premier League matches.
Jose Mourinho has a big positive sign ahead of this clash as Gareth Bale produced a couple of strong performances. He assisted for the team’s only goal in the loss at West Ham and he was on target in the mid-week’s drubbing of Wolfsberger. Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min were both rested in that tie.
The way Burnley looked eight days ago against penultimate-placed WBA was just horrific. We can’t thus imagine a scenario in which they would avoid a comprehensive defeat against fully-motivated Spurs this Sunday.
Home win is a massive banker at the 1.53 odds, but we will be brave enough to back Tottenham to win by at least two goals difference at the odds of 2.45.
