Southampton vs West Ham
England – Premier League
Date: Tuesday, 29 December 2020
Kick-off at 18:00 UK/ 19:00 CET
Venue: St. Mary’s Stadium.
The Saints have been on a barren run in the past few weeks, and this has cost them a bit. They used to be placed in the top-most tier of the table, and now they are battling for a spot in the top-ten of the standings.
Suffice it to say that they are getting desperate, and this Tuesday, at home, we could witness an impressive effort from them – especially against the struggling Hammers.
Note that David Moyes’s men have found it hard to show some consistency all through this campaign. And it also needs to considered that most of their wins in the last few months have come against some of the weakest teams in the league.
As such, expect Southampton to have the upper hand at the St. Mary’s Stadium.
However, the Hammers have a terrific h2h record against this rival in the past three years, while Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men have not been the best of defensive sides in the PL this season.
As such, expect goals to come from both teams this Tuesday.
Southampton vs West Ham: Head-to-head (h2h)
- Moyes’s men are on a five-fixture winning run against this rival.
- They have scored three or more goals in four of the past seven encounters, and two or more goals in six of these match-ups.
- Three of the preceding four clashes at this venue had goals from both teams.
- Since 2002, the hosts have posted a total of just two PL wins at this ground.
Southampton vs West Ham: Prediction
The Saints were held to a 0-0 draw the last match-day on the road, by Fulham. In the meantime, the Hammers were held to a 2-2 draw at home, by Brighton.
Going on, Hasenhuttl’s men were unbeaten in 12 of the preceding 14 overall fixtures, and their only two losses during this stretch had come against Manchester City, and Manchester United.
At home, they had won four of their past six appearances, and had scored two or more goals in six of their last seven home fixtures as well.
On the other hand, their counterparts were winless in four of their past five games, and they remained so in five of their past eight road trips too.
Moreover, since the first week of October, three of the four wins for Moyes’s men had come against teams that were promoted in the last two years.
Likely, expect Southampton to be the better team on the pitch this Tuesday.
However, note that the Hammers are on a five-game winning run against this rival, and they have scored two or more goals in six of the preceding seven h2h meetings as well.
For the reasons, expect West Ham to score at least once this Tuesday.
