Rayo Vallecano vs Getafe
Spain – La Liga
Date: Saturday, 18 September 2021
Kick-off at 13:00 UK/ 14:00 CET
Venue: Campo de Futbol de Vallecas.
Vallecano might have been promoted to the top flight just at the end of the last season, but they have shown a great competitive spirit. Meanwhile, Getafe have been the absolute worst squad in the whole league, and have a poor h2h record against this rival as well.
Likely, expect the former to have the upper hand this weekend.
Vallecano had secured promotion from the Segunda at the end of the previous campaign, and the manner in which they did was a real confidence-booster. They had finished sixth in the league table, and missed out on direct promotion.
Instead they made it to the playoffs as the last team to secure entry. After an emphatic win in the semis, they had lost in the first leg of the final. But the team managed to overturn the deficit in the return leg.
In the meantime, Getafe have a 100% losing record so far this in the La Liga in 2021-22, and they have also scored the least number of goals. Going on, they have always fared poorly against this foe, and they have been a mess on the road for the past several months too.
By the looks of things, expect a win for Rayo Vallecano this Saturday.
Rayo Vallecano vs Getafe: Head-to-head (h2h)
- Vallecano had recorded ten of the former fourteen overall wins.
- They had kept clean sheets in five of the past ten clashes.
- The hosts had recorded wins in six of the former eight encounters at this stadium.
- At this stadium, the home team had scored two or more goals in seven of the past nine meetings.
Rayo Vallecano vs Getafe Prediction
Vallecano were held to a 1-1 draw the last match-day by Levante. In the meantime, Getafe had lost 0-1 at home against Elche.
Going on, the sole two defeats for Vallecano this season had come against Sevilla, and Sociedad – two of the best teams in the La Liga.
Barring those two fixtures, they have shown great form this new campaign. On the other hand, Getafe have been a total failure in 2021-22. And especially on the road, they have been quite a disaster for close to a 12-month period.
In fact, since September of last year, they have recorded a total of four wins on the road, and two of those had come against teams currently in lower divisions, while the other two had come against Elche, and Cadiz – two of the worst teams in the Spanish top flight
The debut of Radamel Falcao could happen this weekend as ‘El Tigre’ returns from his quarantine post the international duty for Colombia. Rayo have been impressive in their last two matches after a 4-0 thumping of Granada before a 1-1 draw away to Levante after the international break. They come up against a Getafe side that, since the departure of Jose Bordalas and appointment of Michel, have remained as difficult to watch but without any of the Bordalas effectiveness. The visitors have lost all four games this season having conceded just five games. This one should be another low-scoring encounter
