Rangers vs Antwerp
UEFA Europa League
Date: Thursday, 25 February 2021
Kick-Off at 17.55 UK
Venue: Ibrox Stadium, Glasgow.
Rangers and Antwerp created the most exciting of all UEFA Europa League R32 first legs last Thursday at Bosuilstadion.
Scottish Premiership leaders got in front seven minutes before the break through Joe Aribo, but the Belgians turned it around before the half time with goals from Felipe Avenatti and Lior Refaelov. The second half was equally exciting as Antwerp dropped a 3-2 lead by conceding two goals within the final seven minutes of the game and eventually lose 3-4 at the end.
The Gers now have a big advantage ahead of the reverse fixture at Ibrox Stadium. They’ve backed up the strong attacking showing by scoring another four goals in the weekend’s drubbing of Dundee United on the home patch (4-1) in the Premiership.
Steven Gerrard’s men have all but secured the new domestic league title being as many as 18 points clear off Celtic at the top of the standings.
Rangers vs Antwerp Head-to-head
- The two sides did not have the chance to take on each other before the last week’s encounter in Belgium.
- Rangers came on top in an eventful affair that has provided seven goals, three penalties, and a red card (for Antwerp’s defender Abdoulaye Seck).
Rangers vs Antwerp Prediction
Antwerp have slowly established themselves as a major force in Belgium. Franky Vercauteren is doing a marvellous job on the bench. His team holds the sky-high second place in the First Division A standings after 28 rounds in the competition.
However, the Great Old were victims of a very tough schedule in the last several weeks. They are winless in four straight games across competitions, but the team have played the likes of Club Brugge, Standard Liege, Rangers, and Sint-Truiden along the way.
The visitors have shown defensive vulnerability against stronger teams recently. They conceded at least three goals to Club Brugge and Rangers each this month. They have not kept a clean sheet in any of the last three away outings in all competitions.
