PSG vs Lyon
France – Ligue 1
Date: Sunday 19th September 2021
Kick off at 19:45 UK/ 20:45 CET
Venue: Parc des Princes (Paris).
This is a huge game in Ligue 1 as we will witness the best team in France against the best team of the 2000’s on Sunday evening.
There will be excitement in Paris too because if all goes to plan Lionel Messi will be making his debut in front of the home fans. Incredibly even though he signed for PSG at the beginning of August he still hasn’t played in Paris.
PSG have started the season in fantastic form and have won 5 games from 5. They are top of the league with 15 points and have a 4 point advantage. The goals are coming too and they have already netted 16.
There was some disappointment in midweek though in the Champions League where PSG could only draw 1-1 away to Club Bruges despite having started with Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.
Lyon are in 7th place after having a slow start to the season but their form seems to be picking up now. They are undefeated in their last 3 games and have won back to back matches against Nantes and Strasbourg.
PSG vs Lyon: Head to Head
- Last season Lyon won this fixture 1-0, although that was Lyon’s first league victory away to PSG since 2007.
- The last time the clubs played each other was back in March and PSG won 4-2.
- There is a 70% chance to see over 2.5 goals.
PSG vs Lyon: Prediction
Including this game this is the start of a run that will see PSG remain in Paris for the next 3 games. This is a good feeling for the club and a great advantage for the players knowing that.
Lyon will be a difficult opponent and their sharpness is getting better game by game. Though this is a match where Lyon cannot look at last season and believe they did well in Paris with a rare victory, usually Lyon do not get good results here.
For PSG there will be some pressure on the star players to perform, and the fans will be demanding to see that in full force. They need to deal with that pressure and deliver not only the 3 points but put in a great performance too. And of course everyone is waiting for Messi’s first goal for the club
