Lyon vs Lorient
France Ligue 1,
Date: Saturday, 25 September 2021
Kick-off 20:00 UK/ 21:00 CET
Venue: Groupama Stadium.
Lyon are looking for their third subsequent home win on Saturday evening when they host top-half rivals Lorient in the 8th round of the Ligue 1.
Lyon found a way to complete a second-half comeback against Troyes on Wednesday evening.
Peter Bosz decided to start the match without either of his two front men, Karl Toko Ekambi and Moussa Dembele.
The idea was probably to get them rested in the easier fixture, but the Dutch manager had to bring them both on in the second half as the result did not go his team’s way.
Eventually, Xerdan Shaqiri, Emerson, and Lucas Paqueta bagged three second-half goals to secure only the third win of the season for Les Gones.
Paqueta has truly found his rhythm after a dismal period in Milan. The Brazilian midfielder has already bagged four goals this season for Lyon.
Lyon have been known for their attacking-minded style for years, but they play particularly attractive football under Bosz this season.
Each of their four home fixtures have thus produced goals at both ends. Also, Lyon bagged three goals in each of the last three home matches in Ligue 1 (against Clermont, Strasbourg, and Troyes).
Maintaining such level of efficiency will be quite a challenge for the hosts given that Lorient have been very tough to break down lately.
The visitors will travel to the Groupama Stadium encouraged after two successive clean sheets.
They kept in-form Nice at bay on Wednesday, celebrating a huge 1-0 victory at the Stade Yves Allainmat – Le Moustoir.
Lyon vs Lorient Head-to-head
- We usually see plenty of goals when these two sides come across each other.
- Both teams scored in four of the last five head to head games.
- Lyon claimed a demolishing 4-1 victory when they last hosted Lorient in May this year.
- However, Lorient won two, drew one, and lost one of the last four meetings with Lyon.
Lyon vs Lorient Prediction
Lorient have lost only one game since the start of the season. They currently sit one place above Lyon in the Ligue 1 ladder and they will come into this match in the highest of spirits after taking the Nice scalp in mid-week.
On the other hand, it is worth noting that Lorient are winless on travels this season (three draws and one loss). Nonetheless, we can still hardly see the value in backing the home win at the 1.36 odds based on everything written above.
