Liverpool will continue the chase for Manchester City atop the Premier League standings on Thursday evening when they host Leicester City in the last fixture of Matchday No 24.
The Reds narrowed the gap behind the Citizens to nine points by taking advantage of Pep Guardiola’s men slip-up at Southampton in the previous round.
Knowing that Liverpool have a game in hand on Man City, the gap could theoretically be just six points, meaning the battle for the league silverware is all but finished.
Nevertheless, Jurgen Klopp will likely still be without his two main stars Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane who need a rest after playing each other in the African Cup of Nations final on Sunday.
It will be interesting to see whether the German manager will hand his new acquisition Luis Diaz a Premier League debut here against Leicester City.
The Foxes do not have much to lose at Anfield and they will certainly give Liverpool a hard time on Thursday.
We must not forget that Leicester City saw off Liverpool 1-0 in the return fixture at King Power Stadium in late-December, back at the time when both Salah and Mane were available for Klopp.
The visitors will be without long-term absentee Jamie Vardy, but they still have excellent firepower up front with the likes of James Maddison, Patson Daka, and Ademola Lookman all set to shine at Anfield.
