Lille vs PSG
France – Ligue 1
Date: Sunday, 6 February 2022
Kick-off at 19:45 UK / 20:45 CET
Venue: Stade Pierre-Mauroy.
Despite dropping points consistently over the past few weeks, Lille have managed to regain their reputation as a club that is difficult to get wins against.
The current champions of France were last seen in a defeat away from home against 13th place Brest. This marked the club’s first loss in ten Ligue 1 matches.
Gaining seventeen points from those games, the club is currently 11th in the league, twenty one points behind their opponents for the weekend.
PSG have been near impossible to conquer as disregarding their hiccup in October against Rennes, the club is undefeated in the French League this season.
With a country mile separating them from the rest of the division and with their impressive performances over the course of the season, the club is cruising towards an 8th Ligue 1 title in ten years, having missed out on it last season, to this opponent.
Their previous match came against Reims, as they won by a score line of 4-0 at home. Having dropped just four points in their last five league fixtures, the club is top of the French first tier, eleven points clear of their closest competitor.
Lille vs PSG Head-to-head
- Their league fixture earlier in the season ended 2-1 in favour of Paris SG.
- Both teams scored just once in six previous meetings.
- Four of those matches witnessed a maximum of two goals.
- The visitors are winless in their last two trips to this venue.
Lille vs PSG Prediction
The Parisians have registered just one clean sheet in the ongoing league season away from home. Their opponents on the other hand have scored in eight of their previous nine home matches. Therefore, I have backed both teams to get on the score sheet.
Firstly, the hosts are undefeated in their last nine matches at this venue in the league. Secondly, their opponents have won just twice in their last seven league matches on the road. Thirdly, in their four meetings in 2021 across all competitions, both teams have won twice each.
Considering the above mentioned observations, Lille should manage to take at least a point from this fixture.
Furthermore, PSG’s preceding three away league matches ended with a score line of 1-1 and with half of their opponent’s last six home matches also involving the same score line, I have backed the outcome.
