Leicester City vs Manchester City
England Community Shield,
Date: Saturday, 7 August 2021
Kick-off 17:15 UK/ 18:15 CET
Venue: Wembley Stadium.
Leicester and Manchester City will officially raise the curtain on the new season in English football as they take on each other in the battle for the Community Shield trophy on Saturday afternoon at the Wembley.
The Foxes won their maiden FA Cup title last year to book a place in the Community Shield game against the Premier League champions Manchester City.
Leicester had an extraordinary run in the FA Cup last time out, beating the likes of Stoke City, Brentford, Brighton, Manchester United, Southampton, and Chelsea en route to the trophy.
Brendan Rodgers’ men also had an exquisite Premier League campaign for the most part of the season, but everything fell apart with some poor showing and unexpected losses in May (when it mattered the most).
They lost the top-four finish as well to stay away from the Champions League football. They now take on Manchester City who are right in the midst of attempts to sign Jack Grealish and Harry Kane.
Pep Guardiola’s men will thus enter the new season as the main contenders for the Premier League trophy.
They had an easy pre-season, clinching comprehensive victories over lower-division Preston, Barnsley, and Blackpool. The Citizens have scored 10 goals in the process.
Leicester vs Manchester City Head-to-head
- The two sides took a win apiece when they met each other in the previous term of the Premier League.
- Leicster City produced the best showing of the season in the 2-5 thumping of Manchester City at the Etihad, but the Citizens got their revenge through a 0-2 victory away at King Power Stadium in April this year.
- Manchester City won four of the last five clashes against the Foxes.
Leicester vs Manchester City Prediction
Leicester will come into this off the back of a 3-3 draw to QPR. While the match saw both Patson Daka (this summer’s acquisition) and Kelechi Iheanacho getting their names on the scoresheet, it also revealed Leicester’s defensive holes.
We all know how lethal Manchester City can be in the final third. The value is fantastic in the 1.90 odds offered for the Citizens to claim the first trophy of the season and win this in 90 minutes. Braver tipsters can back Pep Guardiola’s machinery to win by two or more goals difference at the odds of 3.30.
