JOHOR BARU: Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) are set to maintain their unbeaten run in the Super League when the former AFC Cup champions face Selangor at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Iskandar Puteri on Saturday.

Defending champions JDT are looking unstoppable in their pursuit of a seventh straight league title as they lead the standings with 19 points from six wins and a draw after seven rounds.

Selangor, meanwhile, have been erratic since the start of the season. The Red Giants are sixth with 10 points from two wins and four draws.

For the record, JDT have not lost to an M-League team in domestic competitions since the 1-0 defeat to PJ City in a Malaysia Cup match in July last year.

Fans are anticipating an epic battle, but in-from JDT are expected to stroll past former giants Selangor on Saturday.

A win for JDT will set the course for the Southern Tigers to the league crown.

However, JDT coach Benjamin Mora does not want to take anything for granted on Saturday.

“We hope to maintain our unbeaten run by beating Selangor here. A win tomorrow will help us achieve our target of retaining the title.

“Although we are doing great this season, we cannot get too comfortable. The players must focus on winning every match.

“There are no easy matches in football. We need to respect Selangor and play to our strength to avoid an unfavourable result,” said Mora here on Friday.

In a recent interview, Selangor coach B. Satiananthan hopes his side will raise their game and achieve a good result against JDT.

“Our focus is to play our game and hope for a good result. We are not heading there to lose this match,” said Satiananthan, who will have to reshuffle his team in the absence of midfielder Brendan Gan and goalkeeper Khairul Azhan Khalid.

Brendan is suspended while Khairul has been granted permission not to play as he is getting married on Saturday.

Mora will definitely field his best line up against Satiananthan’s side with Gonzalo Cabrera, Safawi Rasid and Diogo Santo likely to lead JDT’s attack.

With Matthew Davies recovering from an injury, S. Kunanlan is expected to fill in the right-back position with Mauricio Nascimento, Aidil Zafuan Abd Radzak and La’Vere Corbin Ong making up JDT’s defence.
