Genoa vs Fiorentina
Italy Serie A,
Date: Saturday, 18 September 2021
Kick-off 14:00 UK/ 15:00 CET
Venue: Stadio Comunale Luigi Ferraris.
Fiorentina are looking for their third subsequent victory on Saturday afternoon when they take on Genoa in the fourth round of the Serie A.
Fiorentina bounced back from the opening round’s loss at Roma (3-1) by picking up successive 2-1 victories over Torino and Atalanta.
The head coach Vincenzo Italiano can thus be thrilled with the start he has had in the first season in charge of Viola.
The last weekend’s three-pointer away at Atalanta was huge. It came in a crazy match in which all three goals (1-2 victory for Fiorentina) came from penalties.
Last season’s top scorer Dusah Vlahovic made no mistake in his two attempts. The Serbian forward is yet to score from open play this season, though.
The trip to Stadio Comunale Luigi Ferraris should provide him a great opportunity to change this statistics given Genoa’s poor defensive record at the beginning of the season.
The hosts lost their opening two outings of the season but managed to rebound after the international break.
They came back from a two-goal deficit to see off Cagliari 2-3 on the road last weekend. Substitute Mohamed Fares made the difference bagging a late brace (his first goals for the club since the arrival from Lazio).
However, Genoa did concede at least two goals in each of their three Serie A fixtures this season and they will face hard times trying to keep Vlahovic & company at bay on Saturday.
Genoa vs Fiorentina Head-to-head
- The draw has been the most common of the outcomes in the history of this matchup, occurring on 17 occasions in 33 outings.
- As many as five of the last six head to head games between these two sides ended without a winner.
- All of these draws came with the fewer than three goals scored (two times the score was 1-1, three times it was goalless).
Genoa vs Fiorentina Prediction
We believe the time has come for the low-scoring trend in this matchup to terminate. Both Genoa and Fiorentina are looking much better offensively at the start of the season and we can hardly see either team keeping a clean sheet here.
Both teams to score is thus a bet well worth backing at the odds of 1.70. We will alternatively back Fiorentina to score two or more goals in the match against the team that shipped eight goals in their three opening outings at the odds of 2.10
