The Premier League champions have been busy in the transfer market over recent days, signing the Spain international from Bayern Munich in a reported £20million deal.
The Reds did not announce the move until late on Friday but the paperwork was completed in time to allow him to be part of the squad.
Liverpool are expected to complete the signing of Diogo Jota from Wolves, with Nuno Espirito Santo confirming the transfer with Ki-Jana Hoever heading in the opposite direction.
Jota will not be available for the clash at Stamford Bridge, though.
There are plenty of storylines to keep an eye on heading into the game with Jurgen Klopp and Frank Lampard exchanging words ahead of the season.
Klopp recently insisted the Reds cannot spend big in the transfer market as they are not owned by ‘oligarchs’.
Chelsea have been the big spenders this summer shelling out in excess of £200million on signing Ben Chilwell, Timo Werner, Kai Havertz and Hakim Ziyech, plus Thiago Silva on a free transfer.
Lampard responding by warning Liverpool and Klopp not to get ‘too arrogant’.
Klopp insisted there was nothing in the rivalry between the two but it should make for a fiery encounter at Stamford Bridge.
How Chelsea should line-up for the match:
Hakim Ziyech, Ben Chilwell and Thiago Silva have all been ruled out of the match against Liverpool.
Ziyech is still nursing a knee complaint, Chilwell a heel issue and Silva is searching for match fitness following his arrival from Paris Saint-Germain.
Christian Pulisic is still to shake off a hamstring problem, but striker Timo Werner is fit, having shaken off a dead leg picked up at Brighton on Monday.
Olivier Giroud is pushing to start, particularly against a physical Liverpool defence, but Werner should get the nod.
In the absence of Pulisic on the left, Callum Hudson-Odoi deserves his chance from the star but will have his hands full against Trent Alexander-Arnold.
How Liverpool should line-up against Chelsea:
Although Thiago is available for the match, he’s most likely to start on the bench against Chelsea having only joined on Friday.
The front-three will be as you were, with no real competition for Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah at the moment.
Fabinho started from the bench in their 4-3 win against Leeds and should start against the Blues in place of Naby Keita.
The usual back four of Andy Robertson, Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold will surely remain the same.
