Chelsea vs Leeds United
English Premier League
Date: 11 December 2021, Saturday
Kick-off at 15:00 UK/ 16:00 CET
Venue: Stamford Bridge (London).
It is a big Saturday evening for Thomas Tuchel as he lines up the Chelsea team for the Premier League match against Leeds United. Defeat to West Ham and the subsequent draw at Saint Petersburg are the lowest point in the German’s tenure and he and the Blues will be out to prove the doubters wrong this weekend.
Chelsea’s defeat to the Hammers dismantled them from the top of the league table and they are now trailing Manchester City and Liverpool by slender 1 and 2 points. A win is needed here to keep the title challenge going, but nothing is guaranteed against a team like Leeds, we all know that Bielsa’s men will press relentlessly for 90 minutes.
Form wise, Leeds are among the worst in the league and they only managed to win just 3 games all season. This is even worse when they play away from home with the 7 games so far producing just 1 win along with 3 draws and losses.
If you look at the positives, Leeds are quite consistent in front of goal, they failed to score in just 3 of the 15 played so far. Chelsea seems to have problems in defending lately, 5 of the overall 9 they conceded in the Premier League this season came in the last 2 games.
Chelsea vs Leeds United Head-to-head
- Their meeting in the Premier League last season was the first across all competitions in 8 years.
- Chelsea won the battle at the Bridge 3-1 before being held to a goal-less draw at Elland Road.
- It will be worth noting that the Blues are unbeaten in the last 6 meetings across all competitions against the Lillywhites with 3 wins and 3 draws.
Chelsea vs Leeds United Prediction
A strong defense was the pillar of Tuchel’s success at Stamford Bridge, but this is now breached to epic proportions.
Success for one trick pony is rare, but Diego Simeone did it with 4-4-2 counter attacking tactic, while Tuchel did the same with a 3-5-2 formation.
Now it is obvious that teams figured out to press Chelsea higher up the field to force mistakes to open a slow defense. In a tactical sense, there is no team worse than Leeds to face at this moment and Bielsa will be confident of giving the Blues some trouble on Saturday.
However, the visitors are in poor form, I doubt if they have the confidence and mindset to finish off games. This gives Chelsea a much-needed edge and I look no less than a home win in a potential high scoring thriller.
We do not need to say again that both teams are leaking goals in plenty. This is why my main pick is both teams to score priced at a sky high 2.10 odd. While a home win with over 2.5 goals comes in handy as a decent alternative.
