Brazil vs Peru
Copa America 2021, Semi Final
Date: Tuesday, 6 July 2021
Kick-off at 0:00 UK/ 1:00 CET
Venue: Estadio Olimpico Nilton Santos (Rio de Janeiro).
Brazil takes on Peru in the first semifinal of the Copa America 2021, the hosts heavy favourites to make consecutive final.
The Selecao managed to edge Chile 1-0, the first time their full-strength squad had to toil hard to win a game this year.
The lone goal came from Lucas Paqueta, the match also saw Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus sent off for an ugly foul as Brazil defend the lead with 10-men for 45 odd minutes.
On the other hand, Peru strikes lucky in their quarter final tie versus Paraguay. It was an absolute entertainer that saw twists and turns and eventually finished 3-3 at full-time and winner decided on penalty shootouts.
Brazil Team News
Gabriel Jesus misses the match with suspension and Gabriel Barbosa is the obvious replacement.
Meantime, Felipe is out with a knee injury, the Atletico Madrid defender’s only role in the team so far was an unused substitute in the tournament opener against Venezuela.
Brazil Predicted Starting Line-up
Alison – Renan Lodi, Marquinhos, Silva, Danilo – Casemiro, Fred – Richarlison, Firmino, Barbosa – Neymar.
Peru Team News
Andre Carrillo who started in every match for Peru was sent off in the 85th minute against Paraguay. The experienced winger will be missed here with the available options Alexis Arias and Raziel García played just 5 international games between them.
Ricardo Gareca is consistent in selection as well as formation, so surprises are not expected here.
Peru Predicted Starting Line-up (4-1-4-1)
Gallese – Trauco, Santamaría, Ramos, Corzo – Tapia – Cueva, Yotun, Pena, Garcia – Lapadula.
Brazil registered their biggest win of the competition when they met Peru in the group stage. The 4-0 full-time scoreline saw the likes of Alex Sandro, Everton Ribeiro, Neymar and Richarlison finding the back of the net.
The Selecao also scored 4 goals when they travelled to Peru for World Cup qualifiers back in October 2020.
Barring a friendly in 2019, the four competitive games between the teams saw Brazil netting over 2.5 team goals and match total registering over 3.5 goals. The goal aggregate stay 16 to 3 in favour of Neymar’s team.
At Copa America, Brazil won 8 consecutive matches against Peru since 1995.
Brazil vs Peru Prediction
Peru did brilliantly well to reach this far in the tournament and their only defeat in the competition was handed by Brazil. Head-coach Ricardo Gareca knew from the start that his resources are limited, yet he did not shy away from asking his team to play attacking football.
However, this will not work against Brazil, the hosts are without a doubt better than every other South American team by a big margin. Though their fluidity was absent in the last games, we expect it to return on Monday night and bag a convincing win to make it to the finals of the Copa America for a second consecutive time at their home soil.
