Arsenal vs Slavia Prague
UEFA Europa League
Date: Thursday, 8 April 2021
Kick-Off at 20.00 UK
Venue: Emirates Stadium, London.

Slavia Prague have already eliminated two British teams in the knockout phase of the Europa League so far. They went past Leicester City and Rangers to book a big quarter-final tie against Arsenal.

The Czech champions have been exquisite defensively along the way. They shipped no more than one goal in four matches against the likes of Leicester and Rangers. Mikel Arteta’s attacking line will thus be on a serious test on Thursday evening when the Gunners host the Czechs in the first quarter-final leg at Emirates Stadium.

Although we should not speak about motivation (at this stage every single team is motivated to go all the way), but UEFA Europa League represents the only way for Arsenal to save the season.

It is now clear that the Gunners will not secure the top-four finish in the Premier League as they suffered yet another rough defeat on Saturday evening, falling 0-3 at home to Liverpool. Arteta’s troops are now winless in three successive outings in all competitions, a run that involves a 0-1 home loss to Olympiacos in the second leg of the last 16 round.

Arsenal vs Slavia Prague Head-to-head

  • The two sides met each other on just one occasion in the past.
  • They were drawn to the same group in UEFA Champions League back in the 2007/08 campaign.
  • Arsenal won the home fixture 7-0, while the reverse clash on the Czech soil ended in a goalless draw.

Arsenal vs Slavia Prague Prediction

Slavia have played against another London outfit at this very stage of the competition two years ago. Although they lost both legs, the team led by Jindich Trpisovsky (still the head coach) pushed Chelsea to the limits, losing the second game 4-3 at the Stamford Bridge.

The visitors have all but secured another domestic title as they sit 14 points clear atop the Czech Liga standings after 25 rounds. They are fully concentrated on the continental success and we would not be surprised to see them getting a result here against Arsenal.

Slavia Prague will sit deep at the back and wait for their chances from counter attacks. Their defence has been exceptional in the last two rounds against Leicester and Rangers and we believe they have what it takes to keep Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang & company at bay on Thursday.

Since Arsenal conceded three goals in each of the last two matches against West Ham United and Liverpool, we see a strong value in backing the visitors not to lose at the odds of 2.37. We will also back the Under 2.5 goals FT at the 1.90 odds.
