Angers vs Lille
French Ligue 1
Date: Sunday 23rd May 2021
Kick off at 20:00 UK/ 21:00 CET
Venue: Stade Raymond Kopa.
One of Lille’s most important games in their history will take place on Sunday evening as they try to win an historic Ligue 1 title.
Standing in Lille’s way will be Angers and Lille will be the favourites to win but at the same time all of the pressure with be on the visitors shoulders, can they keep calm and win the title?
Angers are in 12th place with 44 points and they could move up to 10th with victory here and other results around them going their way. But this is a dead rubber game for the home side, though they could help PSG to win the league.
Form for Angers has been poor with 4 defeats from their last five games and at home they have lost 9 times. Their last home game ended in a win over Dijon by 3-0.
Lille are top of the league with 80 points but are only 1 point above PSG. Form has been solid but they may kick themselves for only drawing against Saint Etienne last weekend, and they were at home in a game that ended goalless.
Lille are away to Angers but they have the best away record in the league with 43 points from a possible 54. They have lost just once this season on the road and have won their last 4 away games in a row. Lille’s last away game was against Lens and they beat them 3-0.
Angers vs Lille: Head to Head
- Last season Lille won this fixture 2-0.
- Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Angers won 2-1.
- In the last 5 meetings that have taken place at Angers, Lille has just 1 victory.
Angers vs Lille: Prediction
Some in the French media have suggested that Angers do not like PSG and won’t play at their maximum in this game, but that probably isn’t true and once a game gets started professionals will try their hardest.
Lille have the better team and on paper they should win this game but of course there is a lot of pressure on them to do that. What is interesting to note is that Angers have some good results over Lille and in general Lille has found it hard to win games at Angers.
This will be a very exciting game from the first whistle and we expect a lot of incident, but Lille need that final push and we think they will have enough to get it. The problem is that the odds are not generous and a Lille win is being quoted at 1.30. So we will back them to be winning at half time.
