Chelsea had maintained an interest in the Serbian striker after his blistering performance against the Premier League side last season in the Europa Champions League where Jovic scored both home and away, although eventually losing out to Chelsea on penalties.
Jovic eventually turned down a move to London and secured his dream move to Real Madrid for a stunning £55million, but has failed woefully at reproducing the form that once made him one of the most coveted centre forward in Europe.
Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo claim several clubs are also interested in signing the Serbia international including Jose Mourinho led Tottenham, who have prioritised signing a striker in the summer transfer window.
Jovic, 22, secured a £55million move to the Bernabeu off the back of a blistering two-season loan spell with Bundesliga side Eintract Frankfurt, where he scored 36 goals in 75 appearances for the club.
Reports from Spain state that Real Madrid executives are unhappy with Jovic breaking the club’s Coronavirus quarantine rules when flying back to Serbia and coupled with his poor performance with the team, have now opted against keeping him next season.
It is not certain if Chelsea would fork out the entire £55million at once or opt for an alternate deal, but it is rumoured that Madrid would be interested in a swap plus cash deal involving France World cup winning midfielder Ngolo Kante whom Zidine has expressed a desire in signing.
With Giroud’s contract set to expire in July and Michy Batshuayi set for Crystal Palace, Chelsea would need reinforcements and find Jovic a perfect match for Lampard’s system of play.
