Timo Werner becomes RB Leipzig’s ALL-TIME top scorer with 95 goals in fairy tale ending before Chelsea transf

TIMO WERNER has achieved a fairy tale ending in Germany after becoming RB Leipzig’s ALL-TIME top goal scorer with a double against Augsburg.

The 24-year-old played his final Bundesliga game before sealing a £53million move to Chelsea this summer.

The German took less than 30 minutes to make history after he sprung the offside trap to round keeper Tomas Koubek and overtake Daniel Frahn’s record.

But Augsburg had threatened to spoil Werner’s storybook ending after Ruben Vargas fired home a second-half equaliser.

Leipzig had needed to match Borussia Mochengladbach’s 2-1 result to secure a top-three finish with just one point separating the two teams.

And with ten minutes to go, Werner was almost denied the chance to be the hero for the final time as he smashed a second past Koubek.

The former Stuttgart ace was flagged for offside but VAR awarded the goal and stretched his tally to 28 league goals for the season.

Although Werner ultimately finished behind Robert Lewandowski in the scoring charts, his efforts had done enough to seal third spot for Leipzig.

After his move to Stamford Bridge was announced, the German International forfeited the chance to play for Julian Nagelsmann’s side in the Champions League in August.

have already progressed to the quarter-finals after sweeping aside Spurs 4-0 on aggregate back in February.

But Werner’s new side Chelsea face an uphill task after losing 3-0 to Bayern Munich in the first leg of their tie at Stamford Bridge.

And the striker would be unable to feature in the second leg for the Blues against the Bundesliga champions despite his switch to the Prem next month.

Werner’s agent recently hit back at claims his client is letting down his Leipzig teammates by leaving before the Champions League concludes.
