Tammy Abraham has created a storm around his pending contract extension by allegedly threatening to quit the London club if he isn’t given assurances over a continued starting position for the club.
Chelsea have been linked with several strikers around the world, most notably with Lyon’s Dembele and RB Leipzig Timo Werner as the club looks to strengthening the team this January but that hasn’t gone down well with the English striker who is now demanding assurances over his starting berth, The Sun is reporting.
It is believed that Abraham fears that a move for one of Europe’s elite strikers could relegate him to the bench with him still partially dealing with an injury to his ribs which he suffered earlier in the season.
A source claims that the camp of the England striker is worried that a stint on the bench this season wouldn’t favour his chances of replacing Spurs Harry Kane as the main striker for England at the Euro 2020 competition.
“Abraham enjoys being Chelsea’s No 9, he enjoys playing every week and wouldn’t want to sit on the bench at all. He is worried over Chelsea’s continuous links with strikers.”
With Giroud and Batshuayi waiting for Chelsea to sign replacements before leaving the club, Chelsea have also looked at Abraham’s unimpressive records against the big teams this season and is on the look out for a striker who could change that narrative.
Rumours have also emerged of a shock move by Manchester City for the young striker over growing injury fears for Aguero and the inconsistency of Gabriel Jesus to lead the line.
Chelsea’s coach, Frank Lampard has remained tight lipped over who is coming in or going out of the club in the weeks ahead with the former midfielder preferring to focus instead on improving the current defensive woes of his team.
