Michael Ballack insists Frank Lampard would be ‘100 per cent behind’ Kai Havertz at Chelsea.

The Blues have been heavily linked with a £90million summer move for the Bayer Leverkusen midfielder, who scored 18 goals last season.

Havertz could link up with Lampard this summer

Lampard has already signed Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech, but remains a big fan of Havertz.

Ballack, who played alongside Lampard in Chelsea’s midfield between 2006 and 2010, has backed the German wonderkid, 21, to develop into an even better player under the Chelsea boss.

He told Sportbuzzer: “I firmly believe that Frank Lampard would be 100 per cent behind Kai Havertz.

“He likes players who are very dangerous in front of goal and there aren’t many of those.

“Havertz is a player that Frank Lampard would help further, not least because he himself was a midfielder with an eye for goal, who was always moving into dangerous areas, looking to finish off a chance.”

Havertz, who has been compared to Ballack by talkSPORT host Ally McCoist, is believed to be keen on a move to Chelsea.

But Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Rudi Voller insists the 21-year-old will only be sold if the club’s valuation is met.

He said: “We know of the interest of a couple of clubs, especially Chelsea, but for us, the situation is quite simple.

Ally McCoist says Kai Havertz would be an incredible signing for Chelsea: “He’s a real player. He reminds me of Michael Ballack!”

“He has a two-year contract, if anyone wants him on our terms, fine, otherwise he stays here another year and we are happy.

“It won’t be easy, but for a player like him there is no COVID discount.”
