Messi Transfer To Chelsea: Rio Backs Lampard To Land Messi

News that Lionel Messi has told Barcelona that he wants to leave the club after being there since 2001 surfaced online, and people went nuts.

As expected, rumours immediately started regarding the 33-year old’s next potential club.

Chelsea were always going to get dropped into the links, and it was a matter of minutes before their name was mentioned.

Then straight away, Frank Lampard’s former West Ham and England team mate Rio Ferdinand decided to add his fuel to the fire backing Lampard to sign one of the best footballers to ever grace the sport.

“Just heard Frank Lampard is now in for Messi” said Rio on his tweet…

Of course, he is probably just trolling, but the saga is very entertaining all the same.

I expect this will become THE news of the moment now over the next few weeks as the whole world watches on to see where Messi ends up.

At least eight clubs are in a position to sign Lionel Messi from Barcelona, according to Diario Ole.

They are Juventus, Inter Milan, AC Milan, Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Paris Saint-Germain.

Messi sent shock waves around the world of football on Tuesday, when it emerged that he had informed Barca to terminate his contract.

The 33-year-old wants the LaLiga club to activate an exit clause, which allows him to leave the club at the end of the season.

However, both parties have disagreed over when the season actually ended.

Barca feel the clause could only be activated by the end of June, while Messi feels the campaign which was extended by the COVID-19 break, finished in August.

Man City have also made their condition for chasing a deal for Messi known.
