Manchester City will return to the top of the Premier League if they can beat Bournemouth at the Etihad Stadium this afternoon. The third-placed Blues are two points behind leaders Tottenham with Arsenal in second but would leapfrog both of them with a win today.

KEY EVENTS

Doku scores again!

Jeremy Doku is back on the left and is unmarked from another corner played deep.

He takes aim and finds the bottom corner – but it hit Manuel Akanji to divert into the opposite side to where Doku aimed.

It could go down as the defender’s goal.

Bernardo makes it two!

Quick as a flash, it’s two.

Doku swaps wings to the right, twists and turns in the box, and the cutback is brilliant to find Bernardo – who passes calmly into the bottom corner.

Philip Billing makes a tackle on the half-way line and then kicks the ball away. Yellow card.

City have had the relative luxury of a week off since their statement 3-0 derby win over United last Sunday, and – aside from long-term absentee Kevin de Bruyne – Pep Guardiola has a fully-fit squad to choose from.

The Cherries have found life tough so far this season but head north off the back of a vital victory last weekend over fellow strugglers Burnley that lifted them out of the relegation zone.

Great effort

Julian Alvarez sends an inviting cross to the far post for Erling Haaland to attack.

He does, it takes a knick off Lloyd Kelly, and hits the outside of the post. So unlucky.

Doku playing well

Jeremy Doku gets round his full-back again but the cross/shot is blocked.

It’s a matter of time before he creates a serious chance.

Rodri has another go

Rodri hears a shout to shoot from the crowd. He does, and it’s into the same area that encouraged the shot.

Not his best effort.

Doku wants a penalty

City have already worked a number of promising opportunities in these early stages.

Radu hasn’t been tested properly in the Bournemouth goal but that won’t be far away if Bournemouth are not able to tighten up.

Jeremy Doku wants a penalty but it’s too soft and the referee isn’t interested.
