Chelsea will be hoping to build on the 4 – 0 thrilling victory over Crystal palace when they face an onform Southampton after the international break.
The Blues have been having their ups and downs at the start of the season, but their attacking potential should not be taken for granted. Christian Pulisic made his return during the 4 -0 win over Crystal palace but Hakim Ziyech missed out due to injury.
However, it seems that the former Ajax midfielder has overcome his injury and would push for his Premier League debut when they take on Southampton.
Frank Lampard’s side currently sits on the 7th position with 7 points and 5 points behind 1st Everton. This is a game Lampard will not take likely, he might be forced to deploy all his attacking threat of Havertz, Pulisic, Ziyech and Werner.
Chelsea Injury Update
1. Hakim Ziyech
Ziyech has returned to Chelsea after playing 31 minutes for Morocco last Friday evening. The midfielder was withdrawn from the international squad after Chelsea reached an agreement with Morocco that he would be allowed to come back to Cobham after playing one fixture.
Ziyech is still awaiting his Chelsea debut after missing the start of the season with a knee injury sustained during a pre- season friendly against Brighton in August. The former Ajax man is set to be in action for the Blues when they welcome Southampton at the Stamford bridge.
2. Timo Werner
Timo Werner was suffering from illness and missed Germany’s 3-3 draw with Turkey last Wednesday. The Chelsea forward was then left out of the squad for the Ukraine game on Saturday.
However, in a massive boost to Frank Lampard, Werner returned to action in a thrilling 3-3 draw against Switzerland on Tuesday night. Also, he was on the scoresheet and played the entire 90 minutes.
3. Christian Pulisic
The USA International had been missing from Chelsea’s squad after recovering from a hamstring injury but made his first appearance of the season in the 4-0 win over Crystal palace. He should be ready to push for a start when Chelsea host Southampton after the international break.
Meanwhile, Billy Gilmour and the new signing Édouard Mendy are both sidelined with injuries.
