Frank Lampard insists Chelsea cannot afford to get carried away and assume they will instantly challenge Liverpool and Manchester City for the Premier League title this season despite a successful summer transfer window, as they close in on their sixth addition.
Chelsea are expected to conclude a deal worth up to a club-record £90m for the 21-year-old Bayer Leverkusen attacker, who is viewed as a generational talent.
Havertz will become the second German attacker to join Chelsea this summer after the signing of striker Timo Werner from RB Leipzig.
While Lampard has also welcomed Hakim Ziyech from Ajax as well as left-back Ben Chilwell from Leicester.
Kai Havertz is edging closer to Chelsea, after he missed Bayer Leverkusen’s pre-season return, BILD reports.
The 21-year-old completed mandatory COVID-19 tests on Friday and Saturday.
But Havertz was not involved in the pre-season fitness tests on Sunday.
Leverkusen begin their preparations ahead of the new season with an open training session on Monday.
Although a number of top clubs were linked with Havertz this summer, the playmaker has his heart set on Stamford Bridge.
The Blues are close to agreeing an initial £70m deal with £15m in add-ons.
Havertz will join the likes of Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell and Thiago Silva, who have all completed their transfers to Chelsea ahead of the new season
