While that quintet have all made eye-catching contributions during an impressive start to the season for Lampard’s new-look side, the impact of veteran defender Thiago Silva has been credited with helping to accelerate Chelsea’s defensive improvement.
The 36-year-old signed on a Bosman from Paris Saint-Germain during the close season and Lampard is eyeing another bargain with Alaba now appearing destined to leave Bayern Munich after spending the last 10 years with the German giants.
According to Bild reporter Christian Falk, Alaba’s representative, Pini Zahavi, is set to commence talks with the Stamford Bridge hierarchy in January, but Chelsea are likely to face competition from PSG.
