Edouard Mendy is in Chelsea’s squad to face Sevilla tomorrow night having taken part in training yesterday but Frank Lampard must make a call on whether the Senegal goalkeeper can be risked as the result of a thigh injury.

The 28-year-old missed the 3-3 draw against Southampton on Saturday because of a minor strain sustained on international duty.

However, he was involved at Cobham yesterday morning and is likely to start against Julen Lopetegui’s side following Kepa Arrizabalaga’s latest error at the weekend.

If Mendy is not passed fit this afternoon, Willy Caballero may return for his second appearance of the campaign.

Thiago Silva is likely to come back into the defence having missed out at the weekend after a long return trip to South America to play for Brazil, with Andreas Christensen more likely than Kurt Zouma to drop out.

Cesar Azpilicueta and Ben Chilwell are set to continue as the full backs, the former’s inclusion a little harsh on Reece James considering his fine start to the campaign.

Having scored three against Ralph Hasenhuttl’s team, Lampard may be reluctant to change his attack – although Hakim Ziyech could get more than 20 minutes of action as his fitness improves.

There is a question in midfield, though, where N’Golo Kante and Jorginho have been the favoured partnership. Mateo Kovacic was not even in the squad against Southampton but with such a busy spell of games the Croatian could be involved.

Chelsea predicted team to face Sevilla: Edouard Mendy; Cesar Azpilicueta, Kurt Zouma, Thiago Silva, Ben Chilwell; N’Golo Kante, Jorginho; Christian Pulisic, Kai Havertz, Mason Mount; Timo Werner.
