Gareth Southgate provides injury update about Chelsea summer signing

Chelsea summer signing Ben Chilwell was unable to link up with the England national team for their 2-1 victory over Belgium following to illness and Gareth Southgate revealed that he is still being assessed by medical staff.

The Blues left-back was left out of the England national team due to a non-Covid related illness, with Marcus Rashford and Chilwell’s team-mate Mason Mount found back of the net yesterday to help his team to secure a victory in 2-1 match against Belgium.

Southgate revealed that Chilwell has made a return to training with the team ahead of England’s match with Denmark on Wednesday, although he will still need careful monitoring.

‘Ben reported to the hotel today,’ Southgate said after the 2-1 win over Belgium in the Nations League.

‘He did a training session on his own.

‘We’ve just got to assess where he’s at because he hasn’t been able to train through the week.

‘So, there’s a little bit of assessment needed over the next couple of days but he is with the group now.’

The Blues will hope Ben Chilwell has fully recovered ahead of their game with Southampton this Saturday.

Chelsea defender was in stunning form as he made his first Premier League start for the West London club before the international break.

“I want him to do that more” – Jamie Redknapp sends message to versatile Chelsea midfielder

Jamie Redknapp has send message to Mason Mount to drop into pockets more if he wants to reach the level of Manchester City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne.

The two Premier League players were on opposite sides as England defeat Belgium in the Nations League, with Chelsea midfielder, Mount founding back of the net the winner in an stunning 2-1 victory for Gareth Southgate’s side.

However, Redknapp, working for Sky Sports, was more impressed with the Citizens superstar Kevin De Bruyne – despite him ending on the losing side.

And while Mount did secure the win for the Three Lions, Redknapp thinks he can do more to be on the same level as Kevin de Bruyne.

‘They’ve (Belgium) got such an incredible player,’ Redknapp told Sky Sports. ‘Ashley (Cole) and I were purring watching some of Kevin De Bruyne’s passes. He was picking up pockets.

‘When we talk about Mason Mount, I want him to do that more.

‘Kevin De Bruyne is playing in a position in a three, but he was still getting licence to go and get the ball.

‘Wherever the ball is, he’ll find it. Mason is that player who can do it for us, you don’t have to just stay on the right side, come inside.

‘For the goal, that’s where he gets that fortune, which he deserved because he came inside and scored the goal.’

Revealed: Chelsea 26-year-old defender frustrated with his life at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea signed Ben Chilwell from Leicester City during the current summer transfer window it was almost certain that a current left-backs Emerson Palmieri and Marcos Alonso would depart from the club as a result.

Emerson Palmieri was always the one looking most likely to depart from the squad, with Frank Lampard choosing to select Marcos Alonso ahead of him mainly.

However, after a fall-out with Alonso, it then looked like Frank Lampard would be looking to sell Italian defender.

Whatever happened, opinions and plans changed and the Blues ended up keeping both left backs and now being stuck with three players who are demanding to receive first-team minutes.

This has probably left Emerson feeling a little glum, knowing he will be third option for Frank Lampard at the left-back position.

The player himself has even revealed that“things are not going as I wish” at Chelsea.

Emerson: “When I arrive here [on international duty], I change my head, I feel important and part of the group. At Chelsea, things are not going as I wish in this part of the season. I just have to work
