Chelsea are looking to bolster their left-back options this summer after a disappointing 2019/20 season defensively.
Despite having secured a top-four finish in the Premier League, Chelsea conceded 54 goals in 38 league games – a tally that no other side that finished inside the top-10 could beat.
Frank Lampard, the Chelsea head coach, has already set about bolstering his attacking ranks this summer, adding both Hakim Ziyech from Ajax and RB Leipzig star Timo Werner to his squad.
Despite having already spent £80million-plus on Ziyech and Werner, the Blues are not ready to ease off the gas as far as their summer recruitment drive is concerned, with Marina Granovskaia – Chelsea’s transfer guru – looking to support Lampard as much as she can during this summer’s transfer window.
Though Chelsea do need to add fresh blood at centre-back, the same can be said for at left-back as well, with Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri having both struggled to nail down the left-back berth.
With that in mind, Chelsea have been heavily linked with adding to the left-back position this summer, with both Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell and Sergio Reguilon of Real Madrid having been closely linked with moves to Stamford Bridge.
Whilst Chilwell may boast plenty of Premier League experience, Reguilon has been a shining light whilst on loan at La Liga club Sevilla this summer, prompting interest from an array of clubs across Europe
And on Sunday evening, the 23-year-old once again showed exactly why, as he laid on a lovely assist for winger Suso to draw the Spanish side level in their Uefa Europa League semi-final against Manchester United, making it 1-1.
