Chelsea need to sign a goalkeeper, that much is clear. Kepa was dropped not once but twice last season, and ended up on the bench for the two most important matches of the season, against Wolves in the league to seal a Champions League spot, and against Arsenal in the FA Cup final.
So clear is it that the Blues are going to be looking for another option in that position this summer, that the links to Edouard Mendy of Rennes always seemed a little suspect.
It seemed like a journalist who was thinking of realistic rumours might have just plucked that one out of the air, given what Chelsea need and who is decent and affordable.
But the more time goes on, and the more links and details that emerge of our interest, the more we’re starting to believe it’s real. Sky Sports are the latest outlet to seriously report on the rumours, and they confirm that we are at the very least in talks with the French club over a potential move.
We will still need a little more confirmation from insiders to truly get on board, but this seems to be heading in the right direction
